This project saw me creating a community impact report for United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. This report served as both a reflection on the incredible work accomplished by United Way GMWC, as well as highlighting the important current work being done in our community.
The goal of this project was to communicate the impact to donors (current and prospective), stakeholders, corporate partners, and community members in a way that was engaging, clear, and easy to understand.
This tool was used by our fundraising staff when they pitched United Way to local businesses. It was handed out to employees of businesses running United Way campaigns. It was also hosted on the website for anyone to read. It was the central piece and framework for how I built out the rest of the campaign materials.
My role in this project was to design the report from the ground up and collaborate with the marketing team and community impact team to ensure our visuals and messaging were consistent and on brand.
This project wasn’t without its challenges.
How do we fit the amount of content — data, stories, information, etc. — into just 16 pages? After all, this was a report about our entire organization.
How do we keep it from being too overwhelming?
We were going through a complete rebrand at the time.
The solution was to create a very clear visual hierarchy. I used large callouts for stats and quotes to break up sections. Most importantly, I created a flow throughout the report by keeping each spread consistent with formatting. Each spread and page had a purpose. This kept it from being too overloaded.
